A60 mk2 Power Amp

I switched the amp off last night before going to bed - I normally leave it on - because there was a noticeable hum/light buzzing noise coming through the speakers.

Tonight I have switched it back on with the preamp still off and it is pretty much silent.....?

Mains problem or airborne interference that has now stopped. Try some ferrite rings.

OK. I thought it might be mains or the NAS which is about a metre away from the amp (not ideal I know)

I know you advise keeping the power amps switched on, but from now on I may just leave it on when I know I will be using it - say over a weekend etc.

Just checked out Ferrite rings on the Maplins website, how would you advise positioning them if I were to try some?

I don't use them but others swear by them. I think DSJR has used them. Basically you thread cables through them.

They're cheap, removable and also harmless I think. I'd put them at the mains plug ends to start with. I also put them on computer, 'TV system' and laptop power supply cables.

Having really enjoyed the A60 and it combining beautifully with my Croft preamp, I am wondering how big a jump in sound the A70 mono blocks would be?

Is it essentially more of the same?

Yes *more* of the same. But you take no risk as you get the A70s to compare before you decide and return which ever one for refund.
