7 bits is too much IMHO it has too much impact on transients and immediacy. One or two components for the tweeter & the same for the woofer. Maybe a couple of resistors, but not capacitors and inductors. This is my experience anyway very noticeable with the Minstrel's and Sorcerer's crossoverless drivers.
