Re: Your last listen
Just giving this a listen on the recommendation of a friend. Great live performance, nicely recorded, bit like a latter day Weather Report. Well worth a listen.
I've found quite a bit of new music through this thread in the past, hopefully someone will enjoy this

Re: Your last listen
The Snarky's just won a Grammy with their album 'Sylva' which is a sort of modern-day Gil Evans sound with an orchestra.
'We Like it Here' is one I have yet to listen to.

Steven Georgiou, Usuf Islam or Cat Stevens.....Call him what you will.
But I'll call him the Cat, and to me this is simply glorious.

Re: Your last listen
A couple of recently rediscovered gems from my yoof.
and...
Both have withstood the passage of time, and still sound fresh today. The Beefheart was one of the first albums I ever bought, and I seem to remember drowning it in a mixture of brown ale and liquorice allsorts at a party one night. The first time I ever got leglessly drunk

Re: Your last listen
Ah yes, Beefheart. I don't know if that album has the track on it where the lyrics are 'String broke....String broke...String Broke', I assume because the string broke as he was playing.
Others have made string break part of the act (FF to 3:45 if you don't like the song).

It's a waste of time of time if you know what I mean
Try shaking your box in front of the Queen.
I am however drinking sparkling wine

Re: Your last listen
Well it has taken me a while to get around to listening to this free sampler from Kscope records - but it has a few pleasant surprises on it.
Opener is a 9+ minute track from Steven Wilson - a 'leftover' from the stunning 'Hand Cannot Erase' album which has been included on his stopgap '4 1/2' collection. Some excellent instrumental work here with a great Chris Squire style bass solo from Nick Beggs (remember Kajagoogoo ?)
Tesseract (my favourite Math-metal act) come in with a strong number from their skull-crunchingly good 'Polaris' CD.
The Receiver play a pleasant, subdued electro-pop. A bit like Engineers or Icehouse.
Utterly awesoma are the Nordic Giants with a track that starts like Florence + the Machine, then gets to the wild passion of Kate Bush and sends shivers down your spine like Dead Can Dance. I want this album!
Bruce Soord also plays in a refined, synthesised style. Okay, nice.
Gazpacho appear to be working in a similar area to recent Marillion. Quite good this, with some tasty & folky violin.
The Anchoress is a sort of Prog-Rock Tori Amos - this might grow on me.
Sweet Billy Pilgrim does a sort of 80's prog-pop but well-executed. I could get to like this track, very varied.
Closing track is a live number from Nosound - a sweeping, growing Porcupine Tree-like affair. Very Floydian and rather good.
There is a recogniseable house-sound to the Kscope stable - everything sounds a bit like Porcupine Tree but that isn't really a drawback. some excellent music here - and it's free! A pleasant way to fill a rainy afternoon.

Re: Your last listen
I've got that K-Scope sampler download copied onto a CDR and in my works van.
I've also recently downloaded this one https://noisetrade.com/bigears/the-soun ... 016-artist
Quite an eclectic mix, a bit hit and miss, but I really like the version of King Crimson's Epitaph by a female celloist Maya Beiser.

Snarky Puppy's cool Walter.....
On the subject of Weather Report, I think I like this one best, A wee bit of Zappa's "Make a Jazz noise here" in the mix.
