Commando Johnny Ramone, I always though he was the best Ramone with the best hair too. AS the old joke goes - Which one was ''good time''? All died incredibly young.

‘Sensurround’ sound. I have never to this day, ever looked up what it meant. Now I know.

99 red balloons, actually very good lyrics. I like this line -
‘’If I could find a souvenir, Just the prove the world was here’’. Very fitting for today.

3 before bedtime tonight – I just shot John Lennon.

‘’Forty years ago today’’ the biggest miss in history. Surely Chapman meant to hit Yoko? Or so the joke goes. Did his death have any impact on the face of music? I think not. Did his life? Yes! I wonder what his take on Thatcher’s 80’s would have been? Or today’s lockdown?

Looking through all the tribute or reference songs, there is very little I can find of any note – shame, only the Cranberries. Drag, isn’t it.

1 - Gimme some truth (Venom) 2 – Jealous guy (False) 3 – Instant Karma (Power, love the drumming)

Nighty night.

George Harrison - All those years ago
Queen - Life is real
Barclay James Harvest - John Lennon's guitar
Bob Dylan - Roll on John

True, there are plenty, but I never liked any of them to be honest. Suppose it is tricky to write a memorable classic song about a prolific song writer, why waste it on the dead?

3 before bedtime tonight.

I listen to a lot of 6Music and get most of my new bands and music from there. 3 bands that I have enjoyed this year all have debut albums out now or in early 2021. I like the jerky, noisy, cacophonous nature of these 3. Ok a little pretentious, but what is the point in being a pop star if you aint pretentious.

No – Billy Nomates - It’s the vocals I like about her, spoken and sung. Interesting drum and bass beats (but not Drum as base music). Each song on the debut album has a slightly different vocal delivery, reminding me of the likes of, Sleaford mods, Kate Tempest etc.

The Cleaner– Squid. Following on in the spoken come singing style, with a singing drummer though, so I have my reservations. It’s the music that backs his crazed punkesque vocal style that I that I find the more interesting, with clever mixes, beats and solos, it all fits together well and reminds me a little of Talking Heads.

Science fair - Black country, new road. Talkie and shouty, plenty of tension. It says they are Post punk. Punk was late 70s, why are modern bands still referred to as ‘post punk’ ?, we don’t say post war anymore, so why Post punk. Mental as anything, a right mish mash of sounds, a bit weird and very pretentious. Pretentious new post punk, I like it.

Nighty night.

I'm going to steal one of these and do a Three Before [New Year's] Bedtime. Surprisingly for me, I'm not going to write reams of notes and justifications. The choices pretty much speak for themselves.

#1 This Will Be Our Year - The Zombies (The way things used to be. Check out that stereo separation  )

#2 - Goo Goo Dolls - "Better Days (Which is what we're all hoping and wishing for right now)

#3 - Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year (The future and all it holds.)

Have a happy and a vaccinated New Year everyone.

xXPeace.Xx

I appreciate the nod of approval.

By all means, have a trawl through the collection. There's stuff in there that even I've forgotten about, so you might unearth a gem.
