It seems to me that fewer products are being made of real wood these days and there is a lot more particle board (MDF, Chipboard etc.) either painted of veneered. This stuff may have a consistent density and be easier to work but there is something satisfying about real wood. I am assuming that these alternative materials produce a more consistent sound too, for better or worse.
