Yes they will do the job if you are ok in investing £30, but you can always take them out if you finally reject the speakers, which I very much doubt you will.

They won't be the best as they are still a cheap speaker but they will in the end murder most of the commercial crap on the market.

Thanks Doc, my objective is to spend less than £100 (including the purchase of the speakers) so if I buy them, then I have eaten alot of my budget. Ile get them next week.

For me the fun when these are finished and balanced would be to compare them to a pair of BBC LS3/5a, to show the BBC designers up as the bunch of idiots they really are. Infatuated in *their* knowledge and the badge of the white coat at the expense of reality.

Id be shocked and pleased if your right Doc, it doesnt look like you have failed anyone before! I have already shown up the local hifi shop with my dittons but this is another level of modding(and unheard of)

You see this is the problem, the BBC LS3/5a has been bullshitted into an undeserved position of almost immortality, to the point that brainless idiots in the Far East are willing to pay over a £1000 for a clapped out pair of them on ebay.

Do they deserve this accolade, of course not, they are seriously musically undernourished and boring speakers with very little to praise them for, apart from the skill of the hype that has been sprayed all over them.

They do a cracking job of BBC R4, music ? Forget it.

I have been blinded,gagged and sent with the herd of sheep you see reading what hifi and reviews online, you have got to understand Doc, its going to take me time to understand and convert to the darkside . I do believe you are right but with such a high rep that the LS3s have its hard for people to resist. I have heard them and was not overly impressed.

My week of messing about with speakers has opened my ears and mind. Suddenly I have a bit more insight into what a speaker is and does. Certainly I find myself listening with different ears. And appreciating the music more, strangely enough.

There is a freedom in shaping your own 'sound' and a bit of pride too ("hey, I did that. Wow!"). This 'dark side' is that there are no conventions or expectations. Just - how do YOU like it?
