Vinyl is still alive because of the today's underground DJ and whole music clubs culture. It's so much better when it comes to making mixes, sounds natural, analogue, warm, without the electronic touch. It's noticeable, but it's hard to define it. When you play a set you know whether it's from vinyl or cd/files before you read it somewhere :)
And lots of vinyl album sleeves are beautiful, nothing can replace that!

A little update: British duo Leftfield, experimental electronic music that creates trance atmosphere with many dub structures, acid factures, melodic vibrating samples and vocals. This album is 18 years old, and an innovatory piece.

Hi Anesthetise,
Always enjoy this topic, always check your links, don't always enjoy what you post  . Noticed you hadn't posted in a while, but glad you're back, just thought I'd say.

on the subject of leftfield, are you familiar with the first renaissance mix CD. for the first 13 mins or so Sasha mixes 3 different mixes of "song for life" beautifully and seamlessly, true art of the DJ. Unfortunately spawned a million shoddy DJ remix compilations, and celebrity DJ culture. Swings and roundabouts as they say.

Oh for fucks sake for some reason that link starts four minutes in. Not sure why it does that and my intention was to start at the beginning.
See what happens when I start trying to use the computer for anything other than looking at emails or doing all my christmas shopping on amazon. Bugger.

A little update, I've been listening to some progrock-ish stuff lately, here's a few things that I've found.

More: https://soundcloud.com/nosound

One of my favourites lately

(whole Kallocain album): https://soundcloud.com/paatos-official/ ... allocain-1

Modern classical with a techno drive

Another piece of great, new wave progrock

full album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dypgO2_vQHc

And lastly, probably my favourite English DJ, mr Paul Cottam. I just wish I was there, so smooth!

And a few more links to his works:

This one's extremely intimate, I danced through whole evening when I first heard it... It was literally stuck in my head  Was quite a while ago, but I play it often to this date. Cottam has African/Carribean-like influences in his music, makes it damn enjoyable.

And one of his own songs:

Have fun!

Some nice stuff from last month:
Icelandic electronica kept in 4/4 techno beat
[BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p1TgCuZZKE[/BBvideo]

Jannick Schou, one of my favorite ambient-makers. He wasn't mentioned here before, so...
http://jannickschou.bandcamp.com/album/ ... -a-lullaby

Darkside, aka Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington. 'If Pink Floyd was still there, that's how they'd sound like'. This one below is a live performance of their last year's album - Psychic.
[BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3AMQCf4lj4[/BBvideo]

There was much more, but for now I'll finish with this beautiful compilation released on last Xmas.
Dronarivm sums up the year 2013 with '15 Shades of White' CD compilation.

15 tracks that are different in atmosphere and sound are united by a common winter mood.

Winter is a favorite season of philosophers and introvert dreamers, a territory of remembrances and quiet reflections, where nonlinear time allows to bring together the disparate fragments of memories and create a multi-layered collage of pieces of the future, present and past.

Neoclassical pianos, hypnotic strings, light strokes and soft undertones leave a quirky musical pattern on the glass of eternity.

Following is the list of the artists involved in the order it will be heard: Anne Chris Bakker, Talvihorros, Kreng, Ben Lukas Boysen, Aaron Martin & Christoph Berg, Sophie Hutchings & Peter Hollo, Jacaszek (Pleq remix), Marsen Jules, Ian Hawgood & The Green Kingdom, Orla Wren, Kaboom Karavan, Marcus Fjellström, Strië, The Frozen Vaults, Olan Mill
+ 2 digital bonus tracks by Tobias Hellkvist and Zvuku.
