The WD Access app gives my PC a network connection to the NAS so I can copy and maintain the files stored there.

Don:t think it has any effect on access for streaming purposes. But Windows security wasn't allowing me to get connected to the drive until I installed the app

Windows security might have something to do with it buut I am putting it down to the peculiarities of LMS.

A near-hit from a lightning strike this week blew the external power supply for the streaming PC in my lounge system. Oddly, it was the only device that was affected, the safety switch on the main fuse-box tripped out and nothing else was damaged.

Found a replacement PSU on Amazon and have installed it today. I might be imagining it, but the SQ appears to have improved somewhat.

At least everything is working again.

It's possible that the new PSU has better shielding than the old one. You were lucky it didn't fry the PC as well, or was it turned off at the time?

I was already looking at replacements in case it was knackered too.

Definite improvement in the clarity of sound from the streaming PC with new PSU. More punch, crispness and openness. Sound field is more solid allowing for better imaging in a system where the speakers are far from being optimally placed.

Just goes again to prove that digital sources benefit from plenty of nice, clean power.

I think the importance of good power supplies for digital source components does not receive enough attention. All three of the source components in my main system have benefitted from Sboosters, especially the bass. Music has greater impact and authority. It does not concern me that the power supplies are bigger than the source components, significantly so in two cases.
