Nektar 'Remember The Future, Live In New Jersey 2002' (2023)
One of the bands that I fanatically collect is 70's psych/space-rock outfit Nektar. Here the original lineup is reunited after a 26-year break to play the American Nearfest festival. Energy levels are at roof-blowing intensity as the group run triumphantly through highlights from their 70's heyday. Including a complete rendition of the classic 'Remember the Future'. Also synth-maestro Larry Fast comes along to help with an extended performance of 'Recycled'.
Only 500 copies of the CD were made and I found it at a discount price!
Groovy!

Re: Your last listen
Sometimes, out of the blue, a little voice in the back of my head whispers insistently, "You should go and listen to ...." and this time it advised me to get out the one CD I have from 60's/70's Jazz-Rock pioneers Colosseum. This disc is one I purchased out of curiosity years ago and have never really given a chance; wrong time, wrong mood.
Colosseum 'Valentyne Suite' (1969)
No doubt many here will be familiar with this outfit featuring the likes of Jon Hiseman and Dave Greenslade but, for me, this band is a new find. A powerful and gritty mix of styles played with passion and energy. The only comparison that comes to my mind is Manfred Mann Chapter Three (who I love) so there is plenty for me to enjoy.
This has whetted my appetite and I've ordered more discs from Colosseum / Tempest / Colosseum II and will be diving into those when they arrive.
Git on down !

Re: Your last listen
Colosseum Live (1971) is the best live album ever made. I don't want to undersell it or anything, but I think both Chris Farlowe and Clem Clempson peaked on that album.Fretless wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 9:07 pm Sometimes, out of the blue, a little voice in the back of my head whispers insistently, "You should go and listen to ...." and this time it advised me to get out the one CD I have from 60's/70's Jazz-Rock pioneers Colosseum. Re: Your last listen
Jane 'At Home Live' (1977)
A powerful act from the German 'Krautrock' period, Jane have a sound that is often compared to early Pink Floyd but to me it lies in a middle-ground between the classic heavy groove of Deep Purple and the psychedelic space-outs of Hawkwind. Anyhow, Jane do have their own identity with chunky slabs of Hammond-organ, Minimoog wibble-wobbles, loud guitar solos and a rhythm section to die for.
Great stuff and nowhere do they do themselves more justice than on this double-live LP featuring a massive 19-minute instrumental workout on side 4. Must have been a blast on stage.
Definitely a band to check out for Classic Rock fans - especially the 70's releases.
