My brother in law gave me Led Zeppelin How the west was won box set including vinyls, cd's and a code for the down load. Limited edition and selling for about £150 currently. Can't believe he didn't want it :dance:

Taylor Swift 'Evermore'

The big surprise of the autumn was Taylor Swift's wispily melancholic 'Folklore' and the good news is that the same creative cast went straight on writing and recording to shape a sister album 'Evermore'.

This is mature modern pastoral music that slots in amongst The National, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Midlake and the like.

'Evermore' is more focussed and sharper-edged than 'Folklore' but still retains that same heart-wrenching directness.

Love it and melt. :romance-heartsfade:

Judie Tzuke 'Shoot the Moon' (1982)

After recent comments judged this album as sounding 'dated' it was time to give it a critical listen.

Judie's mix of tough rock and softly-heartfelt ballads is fully in evidence here and the prosecution will be quick to point out the 80's production values and rather cliched instrumentation.

In its defence, though, Judie sings beautifully as always with her uniquely warm and expressive voice. Again present, the regular writing/production trio of Paxman, Noble & Muggelton and backed by the rhythm-section of Rhino Edwards and Jeff Rich who would soon be departing for the fresh pastures of Status Quo (dated? who's dated?).

Rock music wasn't doing too well in the early eighties and Judie Tzuke was a beacon of light and quality. 'Shoot the Moon' is a product of its time but needs a bit of nostalgia to still love it.

Anathema 'The Optimist' (2017)

Just read that Anathema are in Covid-related limbo as the cancellation of their 2020 tour has left the band in severe financial trouble. An enormous pity as they have risen to be one of the most impressive and inspiring rock acts of the last 10 years.

The most recent release 'The Optimist' is a triumph of power, atmosphere and emotion.

May the music live on. Here's hoping for better times to come. :pray:
