Linn Karousel
The Linn fan boys are literally creaming themselves silly over this new bearing for the fruit box. It's a game changer apparently that you must buy if you are to be taken seriously amongst the herd of elite Linn sheep.
I must confess I do have a LP12 amongst other decks but there is no way I will be spending anymore money on it......ever. Where does it all end ? Apart from an empty bank account and endless willy waving amongst your fellow fruit box owners.
The more this endless milking of customers continues the more I just want to sell mine and be rid of the stigma. Mine is a pre cirkus with an after market sub chassis (2nd hand) and an Avondale Audio Taps2 psu. I was saving the Aro tonearm to sell when I retire as the bloody thing is worth a small fortune and more than what I paid for it.
I don't think there are too many LP12 owners here

Re: Linn Karousel
Another case of reinventing the wheel. In 1989 I remember we were getting used to the A320 but it suffered from oil pressure transmitter problems. Jet engines had been around for 40 years plus at the time but CFMI had chosen a redesign rather than take an off the shelf product, the customers paid for the mistake.
Linn seem to be doing the same thing, they have a perfectly good bearing but they have redesigned it probably because the customers will pay for it. The difference is that airlines are starting to get fed up with being expected to run the field trials, Linn owners appear to be prepared to pay for the privilege.

The LP12 should have gone to “carousel” when it reached 30.

I'm not sure how you (and others on here) make comments like that DQ.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:01 am As with houdini, it makes a difference but it ain't better.
If I wanted to make an assessment of anything I'd need to hear it first.
Having spent many years tinkering with audio (mainly amps and speakers) I'm well aware of the "different is not necessarily better" scenario, but it can be.
I try to live with modifications for a while, and then go back to what it was and see what I hear, not always possible though I admit.

Re: Linn Karousel
In the thread on WAM Linn owners in the US are bemoaning the fact that there are now very few who are able to carry out the modification on a design nearly 50 year old.

Re: Linn Karousel
In part to Foster debate, in part experience and in part the subject matter. It's a bearing, and there was nothing wrong with the initial one.
I'm willing to bet I'm right and although my maxim is 'to doubt everything' (pinched from marx) I feel no need to try it.

There is one excellent reason why I will be unable to try the new bearing, I don't have a LinnDaniel Quinn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 11:33 am It's a bearing, and there was nothing wrong with the initial one.
