It seems that despite #10's protestations Dominic Cumings may not have been the silent, well behaved, little church mouse they'd have us believe he was at those SAGE meetings he attended.

One attendee of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) said they felt Cummings’ interventions had sometimes inappropriately influenced what is supposed to be an impartial scientific process.

A second Sage attendee said they were shocked when Cummings first began participating in Sage discussions, in February, because they believed the group should be providing “unadulterated scientific data” without any political input.

[A] second Sage attendee said Cummings had played an active role [at] meetings from February onwards. They said they were initially shocked to discover Cummings was taking part in a meeting of supposedly independent scientific experts.

“He was not just an observer, he’s listed as an active participant,” the source said. “He was engaging in conversation and not sitting silently.” The second attendee said Cumming’s involvement was worrying because of his reputation in Whitehall and the questions his participation raises about Sage’s role as a neutral body of expert advisers.

It would appear thatj the "expert scientific opinion" the Government received during the early stages, when Johnsn was a part time PM, might well have come from Cummings. I can't believe experts can get it so wrong, all the more so as what was happening in Italy was so widely reported. This needs to be investigated further and I see the Guardian is looking for whistle blowers.

Johnson's statement, this morning, was much as I expected. He doesn't have much of a plan beyond 'stay at home' because we aren't yet doing enough testing.

He'll be desperate to come up with something by the time the current 3 week extension is over on May 7.

In the same way that the country started locking down, by it's own volition, before Johnson announced it, so the country is starting, by it's own volition, to resume activity. Traffic, even up here, was considerably heavier last week.

Whether it is managing the nation's response to CV19, or his own personal experience of the disease, Johnson has appeared like a man who is always two steps behind the game.

The main objective is not to reduce the overall area under the curve over the weeks, months and years of the pandemic.

Not sure if that was their plan, but it will have that effect as well. Until we get a vaccine the only limit to the area under the curve is the number of people in the uk. And even that may not be a limit if there is no immunity generated from catching the virus. By keeping the hight of the curve down it allows the NHS to manage the number of cases. While the NJS having enough beds wont affect the number of cases, it will affect the percentage of those that will recover.

If catching it, and recovering from it, does not give immunity, then we are in for a pretty rough year or two until a vaccine can be implemented.

I enjoyed when Piers Morgan put Nicky Morgan on the spot over the misleading claim that there would be 50,000 'new' nurses.

I usually think of him as one of the shittest people on TV. On that day, he wasn't even the shittest Morgan on TV...

It's come to something when the disgusting egotistical maniac known as Piers Morgan is having to put the government straight. I would love to know what he knows or has that kept him out of court and possibly jail re the phone tapping scandals
