I really like lightweight, high efficiency drivers. They give the immediacy that is so important to me for emotional connection. It's the one part of Doc Mods that I don't get along with...BUT it usually comes at the cost of (at least a first order) crossover...

They tick those boxes, but there are other compromises...as always.

Yep there are definite compromises, at least they dont take your head off if you sit in the wrong place anymore

Re: My hifi is a disaster 1 problem at a time .
Lockdown as seen me initiate 2 projects simultaneously.
Speakers. I got a 5inch audax midrange and a scan speak d2905 tweeter. Both 6 ohms. I doped the 12inch driver -also 6 ohms-. I painted the front of cabinet white and sanded the wood veneer.
I then lined the cabinet was 6mm steel and 15mm acrylic. I used what I had. Then I bought some wooden broom handles of Ebay and used them to reinforce the cabinet. I had to buy a jigsaw as I can't manage manual sawing any more.
The bass driver is left dope, the midrange as it's own enclosure ( in 1974!) So I used 1 cap and 1 inductor. The tweeter I used I cap. Initially I havnt used any resistors.
I've got to put it together now.
Amps. I bought 2 500va transformers. A some capacitors at 63000 uf 50v. They are as big a soup cans and are not used in hifi. But they have excellent stats.

Not so Daniel, I used them in the power supply of my single ended 50W Mosfet amp. 47,000uf @ 63v, four per each monoblock.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 9:37 am

I have got a box of 22,000uf @ 63v if anyone is interested.

Yes, but, the clue is in the wording Daniel. Single ended MOSFET amplifier, and to be sure a Mosfet is a TRANSISTOR.

Change your name immediately. Mosfetrus should suffice.

I've done the speakers, soon as I find new picture host pics to follow. They look good. I love the 12ich bass .
