Congratulations Lindsay on owning an appreciating classic piece of hi-fi.. That's a rarity in this day and age..Lindsayt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 12:00 pm I can no longer recommend EMT's - unless you find one at a once in a lifetime bargain price.
I paid £2250 for my refurbed EMT 950 with TSD 15 SFL cartridge. That was about 10 years ago. Since then they have shot up in price.
My EMT 930 was ex BBC. The 950 was ex Austrian national classical radio broadcast. It was a German ebay purchase that I picked up on holiday en route to Italy.
Also once you get to a certain level in TT's, the arm, cart, phono stage, support and location take over as being more important to overall sound quality.
The arm cart and phono stages in EMT's are all good. But there are plenty of other alternatives that are also very good.

Re: Robbing Bar Stewards
I believe so and according to someone on Hoffman it includes new belt and springs as well as the mounting bits. So I would say if fitting is around £250 the actual cost of all these parts is around £500. It's actually not the worst Linn rip off so far but it's not going to stop me taking the piss out of the Linn fanboys. It's all a bit daft spending this money on a deck you paid £400 quid for initially in the late 80s say.

Only the stupid mega rich would buy a new Linn product. To keep going they have to continue to fleece the dwindling numbers who were brain washed in the 80s.

Re: Robbing Bar Stewards
My LP12 was £360 or £380 if my memory is correct and I was happy with that because it felt like value for money based on how long I expected to keep it which was 10 years but actually became more than 20.. Unfortunately their success has made them greedy however as a result lots of other very good and affordable equipment has been developed to meet the demand so I guess its another example " you pay your money and you takes your choice"

Re: Robbing Bar Stewards
I don't know what the fuss is all about. For just a measly £750 you will NOW have the "BEST TURNTABLE IN THE WORLD" !
Until they market their upgrade on/off switch.

Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

Re: Robbing Bar Stewards
750 includes fitting, so a couple of hours of a decent dealers time. Interestingly it's too big to be used with many 3rd party psu boards and the in deck mounted Valhalla as it fouls the hole in the pcb. No doubt intentionally...
