Home plugs never worked well for me as I could not get a dedicated plug socket for each end -multi plug sockets are in use for equipment so it would be very busy Mains

CAT8 patch cables have just arrived, fitted one to my laptop (was CAT5e) and damn me - it feels like the response time of the PC has speeded up quite a bit.

Audio tests will have to wait until tomorrow ....

More listening today and the Cat 8 cable has definately increased clarity. This is most pronounced at the frequency extremes. It is the icing on top of the A80 Mk3 upgrade. Dont know why the improvement is taking place but I think the shielding has something to do with it. The ethernet cable is in close proximity to other cables out of necessity which is not ideal. The improved cleaned up digital signal would be magnified by the Mscaler before reaching the DAC. I have ordered shorter lengths of the Cat 8 to connect the NAS and Sky box.

If I understand correctly, every separate lead within the Cat8 construction has its own shielding to enable ultra high transfer speed without interference from other internal sections or external influences.

That is correct. I posted a link on Monday which has a pdf showing what is inside.

Heres my two cents on cabling. I know people who I respect like Geoff who is firmly of the opinion that he cannot hear enough of difference to pay the extra for "fancy" cables and fair play to him for being honest enough to go against popular opinion. Thankfully he also accepts a lot of other people do hear differences and I am one of them. My interest in cables has gone far enough for me to have spent over £500 in the past 3 months on a combo of cables, terminals, shrink tube, fancy solder, wire strippers, crimping tools and shielded outer cabling just so I can better understand how different interconnects effect the sound of my kit, thats vinyl, cd and streamed. Sometimes the differences are night & day in scale, others subtle and occasionly not noticable at all but I would happily conduct blind tests with friends and be comfortable that they would also hear the differences. Shielding has made the biggest difference in my limited tests to date but I have a busy area with a big tele and router in close proximity to my kit so thats no surprise.
ps as I remain cable curious I have just bought one of these influenced by the thread above - browsing on here comes at a cost :)
