Moles

Moles!

Impressive little beasts and a perfect example of an animal designed to live underground and digging its way through soft ground looking for juicy worms.

But - to anyone even slightly proud of his newly-mown lawn they are a pest!
Mounds of earth all over the place and shallow tunnels that you step into.

There are different methods to get rid of these, let's face it, beautiful creatures.

Mole clamps - very cruel, no thanks.
Poison - ditto
Strange gadgets that go 'beep' - annoying for humans and inneffective on moles.

However, I have found a trick that really works - cat turds!

Seriously!

Got this from a forest ranger on TV. Putting cat droppings in a mole tunnel give the moles, who have very sensitive noses, the idea that there is a predator present in their home and they immediately move out of the area.

Dried turds from the litter tray are ideal. I did this and within a day I saw that the moles had moved their diggings off the lawn and into a border where they didn't bother me anymore.

Humane and effective - brilliant!

As soon as any try to go through the lawn again I'll just stick some more cat-poop into the newest tunnel and watch them run.

That could explain why we have no mole holes in our lawns. The cats are a bloody nuisence and my wife has had to fence in her vegetable patch.

As a pest controller this is the first I’ve heard of this! Might try it on my next mole job and see if I have any luck.

I could make little briquettes and say they are organic mole repellent blocks...

Sounds good to me.

I don’t have a Mole problem, but I do have a Cat problem. Locally owned numerous cats (one neighbour is a breeder and shows her long haired Persian’s and she currently has eight of the blighters) have not been trained to use a litter tray and they enjoy my garden as their toilet. Over the last few weeks, I have been gating with a low gate grill and fitting chicken wire over any area of access. In addition I have two ultrasonic inhibitors. Even then, I still can’t keep the buggers out and they keep soiling our garden which my grandchildren play in. The irresponsibility of owners, not to mention how domestic cats negatively impact on wildlife really pisses me off. Of course, if they had dogs, they’d be hanging their black bags of dog poo on prominent trees in nice areas of natural beauty in protest at the expectation they should clear their dogs mess up. Many pet owners (not all), are a bunch of selfish arseholes!
