Bought another CD player
Hope i have not bid against anyone here(sorry) but just won a Sony CDP-S1 for £36 Richard discovered this cdp and kept the model number to himself for a while but eventually told everyone. Can't wait to see (hear) if it lives up to the hype. No remote or manual but the manual is probably available on line somewhere.
It will have to go some for me to favour it over my hot rodded Naim CD3.5 but we shall see (as long as it urns up in one piece).

Re: Bought another CD player
I have a little Sony CDP-M33 (1991) kicking around here in occasional use.
Very basic CD player but with a pleasant and non-fatiguing sound.

Re: Bought another CD player
I've had an S1 for a while but when I first got it I preferred my Nad DVD player and the Sony got put away.
But last week I settled on the S1 in my headphone set up after trying a few players. I am really enjoying it and have spent more time listening on headphones than I have done for months, the Sony sounded clearer than the Nad and Technics CD players that I tried.
I'm not sure if there is a remote available for it as it was part of the La Scala system and might have been controlled via the amp. If I'm wrong it would be good to know what remotes are suitable.

Re: Bought another CD player
Cheers Paul. I shouldn't expect too much from it but after been bigged up by the Doc it's hard not to give it a try. If i never use it, it will come in for summatQuarknosis wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 10:52 pm I've had an S1 for a while but when I first got it I preferred my Nad DVD player and the Sony got put away.

Need a Cdp in my sound proof rehearsal room so most likely it will go in there or replace my cambridge CD5 that is in my kitchen diner system (AP20, B&W CM1).

Re: Bought another CD player
In 'musical' terms, it's great and I enjoy mine greatly from time to time. It's ever-so-slightly warm toned, but not so 'safe' sounding the music is ever bland. It also has an optical digital output which works a treat as well. I think it was a brilliant player as part of the LaScala system and it's so good, I'd like to try the TAE-S1 active preamp one day and possibly the tuner too, but a shedload of stuff will have to go first.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Cheers for the input Dave. Doc said the optical digital out was crap and that he considered shoe horning the £5 Chinese dac in there. You find it good enough ?
I will try and enjoy it as is but i know it won't be long before i have the lid off and working out how many extra power supplies i can give it
