The statement that I quoted from DSJR is typical of the Linn marketing rhetoric of the time, where they took every feature of their products and company, good bad or indifferent, and turned it into a reason why they were the best and everyone else was worse.
Once again, you're not reading what I'm saying.. Linn knew full well how bad records are when played on most players, especially theirs back then, having proper masters proved it to them and the main criticism I now feel was the delay in sorting the bloody deck out as well as the eventual profit possibilities in selling ever more upgrades! I and a handful of others were able to listen for ourselves the difference. The main reviewer who made all the noise was totally deaf and blind to anything else I felt and you lot would have had a field day taking him apart had this forum been around then.

Max Townshend also had access to proper source material and he freely demonstrated it to compare his Rock 2 turntable to. Practically everyone else, in my view, who were making decks were guessing at how they thought it should be and sometimes it worked - in my opinion.

You probably won't believe me and actually, I'm rather insulted that you all seem to feel I was merely one of their numerous unintelligent puppets, never able or willing to hear alternatives as many of their disciples were and blindly (deafly) following the instructions from on high (if you only bloody knew the true story here).

I'll let you continue.

I think Linn were very concerned about the superiority of the Pink Triangle in particular. I have read reports of Ivor's storm troopers sabotaging the PT in dealers show rooms and saying purchasers were at risk of catching Aids.

I remember Linn made their own recordings. The Blue Nile comes to mind. They also I believe made studio digital equipment before their domestic offerings. They obviously knew how bad the LP12 was in the late 80s from which point genuine improvements started. It's odd that the substantive design changes were launched as very expensive add ons in the mid 00s probably as part of the strategy to rebuild company finances after shedding half the workforce. Rest of the product line being reduced to streaming hardware and speakers.
