MIKE OLDFIELD - Amarok (1990) Full Album

Tucked away in Oldfield's catalogue are a couple of treasures that are not a variation on 'Tubby Bulls' and this is one of them. 'Amarok' is a single track of just over an hour long that should be an essential purchase for those wanting to show off their audio installation. This album has it all - acoustic, electronic, quiet, loud, subtle effects, sudden dynamic shifts, Margaret Thatcher ... everything! All played by MO himself with a warning on the back:
Ik ga ff luisteren. Klinkt goed tot dusver.

Not sure about the Thatcher bit. It could ruin it for me
Just gave this a play through head phones lazing in the back garden. An enjoyable listen. Recall buying Tubelar Bells for a quid from someone at school. :)

Nick Heyward "North Of A Miracle" I find it hard to enjoy pop music past this period, early to mid-eighties. I guess you just end up getting too old.

Pop music was good back then: OMD, Human League, Thomas Dolby, Thompson Twins, Yazoo, even A Flock of Seagulls.

It was best in the 70s, T.Rex, Slade, The Sweet, Suzi Quatro etc and far too many more to list. Even the likes of the Osmonds and Bay City Rollers were ok and good by today's standards. Top of the pops was the highlight of the week in the early 70s.

The 60s was great decade also. A bit before my time and I am rediscovering it through streaming. I like a lot of Motown some of which is covered by rock bands. I was not aware they were covers in some cases. You can't beat I good song whatever the genre. The late 60s early 70s were the best years. Sentiments echoed by Lemmy in his autobiography which I'm currently reading.

I'm with you CN. I know it's no longer acceptable to mention him but I used to like those seventies Gary records too. Used to watch Top of the Pops from about 1972 to 1983/4.

He was never my favourite, too artificial, but I used to like his stuff. Have read some amusing things about him from that era in rock autobiographys about when his wig used to fall off.
