But I recently saw the film 'Arrival' which is a sort of cross between 'Close Encounters' and '2001' and something else. Anyway it is an amazing movie that all sci-fi enthusiasts should get around to seeing.

But the music is stunning. Try to imagine a collaboration between Brian Eno, Arvo Part and Steve Reich. The Icelandic componist Johan Johannsson was busy creating the music while the film was being shot and the mood of the film was adjusted to fit in with the music. This is a soundtrack that can be listened to on its own: captivating, chilling, soothing, disturbing.

Johannsson started out in as a punk guitarist, discovered synths and then began to compose Classical works with his recordings being released on the famous Deutsche Grammofon label. Unfortunately he died a couple of years ago, only 49 and cause unknown. Sad.

Don't do what I did. I put this on and fell asleep, waking up suddenly to bizarre alien sounds that had me wondering if I'd been abducted in a UFO.

:sci-fi-beamup:
Hope you're right, just ordered it...

I have seen the film too

Just tapping my foot along to Pocahontas on Neil Young's Hitchhiker.

It's one of those recordings that a decent system can get as near to a live performance as damnit.

"On the right track now" by the Vietnam Veterans, a French band in the 80's, referring with their music to the psychedelic bands of the 60's with a very special note (the voice!). In my youth we thought it was punk, we didn't know the elder stuff where it came from.

Next: Orange Peel. I did buy this on both CD & Vinyl when it was Re-issued on City Studio gotta be well over 15 years ago. The Vinyl Re-issue was superb quality both in construction, finish & sound. Original Bellaphons are daft money nowadays. Great LP but dislike the "Tobacco Road" cover.

Aye. Don't you hate it when German bands go for the signature Amerikanisch-ähnlich track?

As if its obligatory (like its obligatory for Korean rock lps to end in a dumbass propaganda march-track.)
