I wasn't paying enough attention to Trevor's post. The microrendu is now £615. The ifi supply is smps...about £50 here. The uptone audio ultra cap that I use is linear...about £400 here.

Classicrock wrote: Mon May 07, 2018 10:42 am How about just producing an NVA power supply version with appropriate voltage for the £4 DAC or a version for Beresford and others? Would have to be 12-15v DC for later. No effort in recasing anything required.
I am happy to let the Chinese shitty cheap little DAC (as it will be called, just watch) stay as a open source project. I will help with inf to anyone who wants to do it. Steve as well as Stu if he has time.
Doc. Ive just bought one of those £5 DAC's this morning, Anything i should know that you & Dave done to theirs? I plugged my CD player in for the first time in say a year, Sraight away it dawned on me why i stopped using it. Sounds great but there is a slight Sizzle on Symbols that i cant bare, I know its not the actual discs because the Rips to File dont have it.. Maybe this DAC could be a miracle.. You two seem happy with it??

It is ok, it becomes special when twinned with a 5v Linear Power Supply. Lots of Chinese ones at about £40. The one I use is https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hifi-linear- ... 2749.l2649

And I am using this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30VA-DC5V-Hi ... 2832257929
( for a different DAC but also works very well and can be customised - mine came with micro usb as a additional plug - for no extra cost )
Nothing to see here...

Being part of the source chain do these benefit from plugging into a BMU?

Even with a wall wart, mine never sounded awful or rough or harsh (whatever you can criticise bad 'digital' for). With a bigger supply - mine's home made from something else I had to hand from years ago, but it's about the same size as the Chinese one and I do feel the sound is a little more expansive, allowing you to hear rather deeper into the music mix with greater 'ease' and in musical terms, hear better what the musicians were trying to communicate (apologies for not being able to describe it better).

I've only ever used mine with a BMU, even with the wall-wart...
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Are you a designer, stay on your subject don't tell me what works, unless you have done it. Even then a majority are talking out of their arses from an ego perspective.
