Is seeing believing?
I missed this first time round. Back on iplayer for a few weeks:
"Horizon explores the strange and wonderful world of illusions - and reveals the tricks they play on our senses and why they fool us. We show how easy it is to trick your sense of taste by changing the colours of food and drink, explain how what you see can change what you hear, and see just how unreliable our sense of colour can be."

Colour can have a pretty powerful impact on some people apparently. The colour of medication has been shown to affect effectiveness. E.g. de Craen et all (1996) suggested that pain killing pills work best when white, stimulants when red, orange and yellow, and tranquillisers when blue and green.

(Research also shows that a sizeable minority of people do not show a placebo effect, be it colour or otherwise.)

Re: Is seeing believing?
I actually think that can happen to the best of us. I've certainly been guilty of it in the past when I've had some big, posh gear in place and convinced myself that it sounds better than it actually does. Doesn't take long to discover that you're wrong but I'm sure I'm not the only one it's happened to.

Hemmo1969 I have a wife I showed her karatestu rig photos and asked her would it sound better if it was in kind of NVA boxes - the answer was YES - so (at least to one) woman it would

Re: Is seeing believing?
How do you know? The mind behind our ears is so easily duped and fooled (the Synergistic Research site and products must tell you something as regards a lot of what they peddle and almost all the so-called Top End market is full of low cost electronics in very expensive casework to fool the well heeled), yet as you say, our ears are all we have, so be bloody careful when making 'sonic' decisions.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 04, 2018 8:25 am None of what they observe is useful for evaluating sound quality
