Variac and angle grinder

Unread post by karatestu »

If I plug a240V angle grinder in to a variac and say run it at 110V will the speed be reduced ?

Sometimes I need a bit less speed and there are no speed controls on a bloody angle grinder. :angry-screaming:

Depends on the motor, some are controlled by the frequency so all voltage drop will do is make the motor overheat. Others may be controlled, but I am not a motor expert.

If you do connect it, the motor will attempt to draw more amps so will burn out. Don't.
