P50sa static
Doc, the volume control on the p50sa I have had since new has always had a static problem in the volume control, must be dust in there somehow.
Is it possible for me to get in to use antistatic spray on it?
I remember on earlier perspex cases you could get in with a thin bladed knife.
Is that possible?
Alasdair

Re: P50sa static
Yes you can get in, but it is unlikely that is the problem. It depends what you are using the P50sa with. NVA ar built to classII double insulated regs, so there is no case earth, in fact it is illegal and stops you being classII if you have a case earth. If there is a case earth incompatibility with what is being used then you need to create an earth for it. Phono plug long bit of wire from the neg terminal on the phono plug and wire to the earth pin on a 13 amp plug. Plug the mains plug in, and plug the phono into any unused one on the P50, should cure it.
Please make sure you only use the earth pin in the mains plug

Re: P50sa static
Bongobongo - is your problem really static?
The stepped attenuator in my P50sa can sometimes generate a quite loud and unpleasant noise when switching from one volume setting to another - but I believe that it is normal and don't worry about it.

Re: P50sa static
A S/A is a series of resistors brought in and out of circuit as you click the dial up or down. Is not amplified pops, clicks and noise through the speakers the norm ? Noise during use is a different matter.

Re: P50sa static
That's interesting.
There's a loud rasping noise when I change the volume setting, as I had before in another amp which was fixed by an antistatic spray.
It's connected to various front end stuff thro to a80s, all of which sounds excellent except when the volume setting is adjusted.
It has been like that since new.
It just sounds crap when you're trying to show it off to unbelievers.

Re: P50sa static
No spare phono plug.
Will try tomorrow.
Is this a common problem with nva.?
Didnt happen with my p90., and the same front ends.

No, it is just it can't be static, it can't be dirty contacts the switch is too new. So what we have left is earthing or you have to send it back for checking.
