Re: Your last listen
Not played this CD in a while, bloody marvelous. The track listing is a bit prophetic today... The Joker, Living in the USA, My Dark Hour

Re: Your last listen
I saw this a long time ago and have never been able to find it again until this evening as I couldn't remember the name of the artist or the song. The way she layers this is amazing.

Re: Your last listen
Good choice. KT Tunstall is well worth investigating. You can listen to all her albums on Spotify, she's no one trick pony that's for sure.George Hincapie wrote:I saw this a long time ago and have never been able to find it again until this evening as I couldn't remember the name of the artist or the song. Lavinia Meijer - The Glass Effect // Album Preview
Harpist Lavinia Meijer broke through to international acclaim with her first album of Philip Glass pieces 'Metamorphosis'. Whilst working out the arrangements of these piano-based compositions for harp she began a friendship with the American composer and in collaboration with him she has now released a new double CD of modern harp music.
Since meeting Lavinia, Glass himself has 'discovered' the harp and has begun to incorporate it into his recent works. When asked if he, himself would arrange some pieces for harp he said; "Well I could - but why should I bother when I have her."
The first disc contains reworkings of a series of Glass's Etude's for Piano which vary from slow, introverted to quick and dynamic. A display of technical accomplishment and instrumental brilliance. The second CD begins with a solo harp rendering of the greatest hit 'Koyaanisqatsi' and then goes on to a set of pieces written by young composers who have all been influenced by the master of minimalism. These include a set of three delightful sonatas by Bryce Dessner of avant-rock group The National.
Excellent music that will also appeal to those who find Classical to be too 'stodgy'.
