Gave RT's latest another spin and this one is excellent. Been in a creative rut for some years but this is his best since the 1990s.
Great sounding 45 rpm double vinyl which helps.

Well Jammy, you are many things, but a shoe gazer I suspect you're not. I'd guess they're [The National] a little introspective for your tastes

Absolutely no reason why you should get into them Jammy. That's why there are so many different musicians out there... if we all liked the same thing a lot of them would be out of a job.

FWIW, although I can see Freddie Mercury was undoubtedly one of the greatest showmen of the Twentieth Century, I couldn't personally do a marathon of the Queen discography. I can fully understand why someone else might though.

One of my favourite TeeDee albums on youtube -

You have the original limited, multi-gen analogue compilation, Pt 2 mod noise melotron flutes live (mostly) Croydon gig -

This is better - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IlsK5MChw4

Or the ton-up modern digital 'recreation' which sounds far better to me, apart from the clanky electric piano and needless percussion - imo of course.. I think Edgar was really ill long before his bad fall...

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Ah, yes. 'Ricochet' an aural rollercoaster that you can't stop once it starts.

But I'm not very fond of the later reworkings of the early stuff, though.

I can't agree with you about his 2000+ output. Sweet Warrior, Dream Attic, The Old Kit Bag spring to mind, definitely on a par with Still.

Though I agree that his 1990's albums are his creative peak, I still believe a lot of his post 2000 albums still have considerable merit.

Having said all that, the best way to really appreciate Richard Thompson is to see him live, solo or band. The man's a genius.

A sort of English Blood Sweat & Tears with a serving of (early) Chicago on the side is the best way I can describe this one.

Couldn't resist this one, thanks Slinger. Takes me right back to small clubs with bad PAs, Spooky Tooth and the Colliseum (Jon Hiseman's group, that is).

The album has been nicely remastered and sounds fresh.
