Re: Should Britain remain in Europe. ?
You see I am old enough to remember this all before when Ronald Reagan was preping in the primaries. It was the same, he behaved as the same sort of nutter, we all thought he was a nutter, but in many ways he ended up a good president. This is not a dictatorship, it is a democracy, as a candidate he is a dictator in order appeal to as many eediots as he can if it helps him be elected, but in power he has to appoint an executive, there are checks and balances.
The major problem with the US is that in order to have the exposure to get the eeediots to see you you have to find a lot of rich people or companies to back you, and they want something back in return. Basically democracy in the US is up to be bought and it is a very expensive process.

Re: Should Britain remain in Europe. ?
As I have said before when it comes to free trade given the choice between the US and Canada (forget Mexico) or the rest of Europe I will take the USA, why because we will make more money and be far more successful AND with European companies, as the likes of BMW etc will clamour to open UK factories to get preferential imports to the USA.

In that scenario, America will wait until Britain is on it's knees and begging for aid so they can move in and take over.
China might get in first, or Russia, or even India.
Then where will Britain be with its independence ?

Re: Should Britain remain in Europe. ?
Bloody nonsense. If the US had wanted to do that it would have been done after the war, we were at their mercy. BUT in fact all they wanted was for us to give up the Empire.
You obviously don't realise the goodwill and the clout that British people and culture has in US. We have 10 time as much in common with US and especially Canada than anywhere in Europe. AND faced with the choice of being part of a European superstate and the 51st US state it is no contest. I don't want either but if it was Hobsons choice then the US everytime.
BUT my personal current choice is to be member of the EEC, which is what I signed up for, and what was working for all of us in Europe until 1/ they went for expansion too quickly with countries not ready for it 2/ they stupidly decided to go for one currency in an unbalanced community. So they have created ONE BIG COCK UP. If they listened to us and backed off to the EEC again instead of trying to create a fairy land, then the good days would be back again for all of us.

Re: Should Britain remain in Europe. ?
Cracking post Doc, the points raised might just nudge me over to 'out' vote, as yet i'm undecided,
time to be brave and leave this European Union dream to the Germans and believe me the worst is yet to come,
hard to see it working if they keep letting countries with inadequate minsters and dodgy economies join,
makes me mad when Greece tried to veto Cameron's demands, how can you have a say when you're bankrupt,
there again what do i know.

Re: Should Britain remain in Europe. ?
Very clear, Doc. And I do agree with your standpoint about the EEC, too-rapid expansion and rushing into the Euro.
But the UK in/out ? Only time will tell ...
Mike Oldfield - Only Time Will Tell.
