FFS I am getting bored with this. The statement you made PROVED you have no electronic knowledge. To make a statement like that without referring to the type of cart involved, that can vary in voltage generation from a few microvolts to volts just proves it. You are getting very close to the edge again, the next trio of strikes will be applied unless you listen and be warned. I will not have members here given so obviously bad and ignorant information.

Re: Record player phono cable extension
It makes little to no difference (as to if it works) what cable you use. The factors involved are length of cable, due to the corresponding LCR of the cable being multiplied by the longer length, and the voltage given out by the cartridge to try and get down that length of cable. Surely you must understand that! otherwise you shouldn't be posting as having knowledge. You had an individual situation with individual cable and cart that to your satisfaction worked and you have expounded that into applying to all applications and situations - IT DOES NOT! - and to tell members here it does is doing them a disservice.

Re: Record player phono cable extension
From Rick's initial post;
"It's a Rega Planar 2 and has the phono wired in."
If that means a built-in phono preamp then it could be the phono amp that's driving the 7m cable, not the cartridge direct.
That's still a very long i/c! I would never do it.

Agreed, that would be a better proposition. I suppose as usual it is suck and see. If he buys SC he can send it back for refund if it doesn't work.
