Re: CD Sources with NVA?
I have heard a musical fidelity CD and Amp combo in richer sounds last year, we were comparing it to an arcam set up and a roksan set up. The musical fidelity was very poor compared to the Arcam and Roksan setup, in fact the Roksan kicked butt.brit-pop wrote:I heard a friend's Musical Fidelity A3.5 with my system.
It's a fine player and sounds great.
Cannot remember the MF models but I wasn't impressed. Maybe the A3.5 is a lot different.
Thanks Brit Pop, it would be nice to find one to listen to.

Re: CD Sources with NVA?
The only CDP I've owned that I would have again was the Tube Technology Fusion (Mk1).
They were about £2200 new, I picked up mine for £650.

Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

Re: CD Sources with NVA?
You don't need the CD player to match with NVA you need the CD player to give a presentation that you like.
My rule of the thumb is:
Sony - neutral
Technics - exciting
Marantz - rich and warm
There are some exception to that, obviously.
Best I have used? -
Technics SLP1200 B - better than anything (paid £180 but they usually go for more)
Parasound cdp1000 - A little bit like Marantz but more neutral (paid £40)
B&O CD6000 - old school oversampling with the TDA whatsit chip. Lots of texture, a bit 'dark' (Paid £80)
Sony SCD XB790QS - what I am using now. Typical Sony sound, detailed and clean but not forgiving of any roughness up ahead of it (amp and speaker wise) - also does SACD (paid £50)
I'd avoid anything with tubes in it and also anything that bills itself as sounding ''analogue-like' as it normally means 'desperately coloured'.

Thanks for your input, that's really good info. I like the fact you have experimented with some unique brands that not many people think of. Will be looking into those.Macca wrote:You don't need the CD player to match with NVA you need the CD player to give a presentation that you like.

P.s would you say that the Sony could come across at all bright?
