Re: Your last listen
Crest of a Knave is a classic. I first heard a track from it (She Said She Was A Dancer) on Radio Monte Carlo, which was a late night station, 205 0n the Medium Wave if memory serves. Listened through the whole track thinking "Wow, a new Dire Straits album"until the DJ came on and gabbled away incomprehensibly, to me anyway, at length. The only words I understood were "Jethro" and "Tull." followed by "Crest Of A Knave" I went out and bought it at the first opportunity.

Re: Your last listen
I don't contribute enough to this thread.
Very little mention of so called classical music, so I am afraid a little education to start. The major time divisions of so called classical music are as follows: the early music period, which includes the Medieval (500–1400) and the Renaissance (1400–1600) eras; the Common practice period, which includes the Baroque (1600–1750), Classical (1750–1830), and Romantic eras (1804–1910); and the 20th century (1901–2000) which includes the modern (1890–1930) that overlaps from the late 19th-century, the high modern (mid 20th-century), and contemporary or postmodern (1975–present) eras.
So I was in my local Red Cross charity shop sifting through the CDs as they had a notice in the window "all 50p", mostly crap, bought four, one a Vienna Waltz and Polka era classics, like played every year at the Vienna new year concert all tunes that are very well known. The surprise has been 20th century music Russian composer Prokofiev, really good recording of the 1st Symphony and The Love of Three Oranges Suite. There is some Shostakovich the modern Russian composer tacked on the end of the CD who I really am not that keen on, leans to much to the contemporary for me.
Brill find for 50p

Judy Collins - Original Album Series (5 CDs). Haven't actually listened to them all but there are some belters in there. We all know "Both Sides Now" and "Send in the Clowns" but it's given me a chance to reacquaint myself with 'In My Life' which has been and still is a favourite of mine. Probably the first time I listened to Randy Newman Lyrics

Re: Your last listen
The Quiet Sun album was recorded during the same sessions as Manzanera's ' Diamond Head' album (an all-time favourite of mine). Another excellent album is 'Listen Now' which Manzanera did with 801.Lordie82360now wrote:Having a bit of an "Old Mans Music" moment!

Re: Your last listen
Happy to concur Fretless!
Flight 19, Frontera other great tracks from PM oriented albums and Space Circus from CC with the great Stanley Clarke on bass.
On Holiday in Halkidiki in the late 80's my family and I saw Chick Corea in Thessaloniki just by chance on a balmy evening - just went on a day trip
and bingo a concert from an artist I always wanted to see previously - what luck!

Re: Your last listen
I've tried to like most of Psi-Fi by Seventh Wave, but end up skipping most and going straight to '(This is) Only The Beginning' which has an incredible groove and a bass line that cheapo turntable and cartridge systems just can't reproduce properly.
I did a silly thing tonight (sillier than usual ) I discovered that I have perfect FLAC copies of Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk. Buoyed by memories of The Cubix Pro's tackling this album so beautifully, I played some of it on the workroom system. I said 'some of it' because it just didn't 'get to me' like it did at the Doc's place

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
