Don't worry Jammy. DACs are things that float on ponds in the Bronx and a streamer is a bad cold.

It's white man's magic!jammy395 wrote:If however you wanted to add a basic streamer, or a computer to your set up, or if you just want to get better audio from your tv then you'd benefit from one. (Britpop)
What is a streamer.?
It pulls the music out of the sky and sends it to the speakers. How they do it is beyond me.
I guess it's a bit like God, religion or homeopathy, you have to believe in it for it to work.

Absolutely nothing. My lovely little TEAC UD-H01 is mains powered and is happily deciphering all of the ones and zeros from my DAB radio, my CD player, and my computer.jammy395 wrote:...Whats up with a good old 240 V up em.........

DACs don't matter like cables don't matter Jammy. I wont advice as I am not familiar with new ones. The last one I heard I really liked but I don't know how good it is as I have little comparison, though it is better than a Beresford of two years ago as I compared them.

Jammy this business of no internal mains PSU is to get around CE and safety regs and it makes importation paper work a lot easier. So the likes of Beresford (and others) do it as their units are made in the Far East for them and imported. It is a scam to get around EU safety regs per usual.

Re: DAC's.....Do I really need one ?
I started with the basic HRT music streamer, around one hundred quid now or something like that.
Yep, it made a difference.
I’ve had both Exposure CD players, Mission, a Naim for a bit, a funny Philips job with that chip everyone goes on about all feckin day; it was crap, a Marantz, some other stuff.
The HRT 11 tore the lot to shreds. In fact, discovering the Dac made me flog all my records, record deck and associated kit (there was quite a bit including a Decca London Gold cartridge and Haddcock 228 arm, and later all my CDs’.
I used to have CD players…nuff said.
I’m sorted now with Dacs. I got the Benchmark and I have heard nothing that betters it; not my mates Metric Halo, not the Weiss, nothing, and I got a decent pre amp and headphone amp in the box.
Nope, you don’t need one, but I will bet once you’ve heard one that fits your system and ears you’ll want one.
