Re: Ooh! New Shoes
The stands come with 8 bags of inert filler, so one bag per column.
They do sound really nice, but they were great before. In terms of differences, I'd suggest the sound stage seems more distinct and wider which I put down to the Cubes being slightly better controlled on these stands. It's not a huge difference, but it's there.
The oak stands are also filled and full of Atacama Attabytes. I offered them to Antonio but he hasn't said whether he would like them or not. If he doesn't then I'll list them in Classifieds. Substantial oak with spikes and they look nice too. Someone will have to collect them though.
I will let my wife know the curtains have a fan - she loves Elephants

Re: Ooh! New Shoes
Was looking at that new board from Allo - but I doubt it is any better than the Digi+ PRO, which also has separate clocking for 44.1 and 48 KHz.George Hincapie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:53 am They do mate. The Cubes sound great on them too. Some beautiful music coming out of those boxes this morning via the HFB Digi+ Pro. Have you seen the Allo DigiOne? Supposedly even better. Wondering to try it. Really affordable.
But if you want to try it out - go for it. Volumio is configured for it.
As for speaker stands - I have discovered that my Cube3's sound better if I raise them about 20-25cm. So they are currently perched on top of another set of speakers lying on their sides on top of my venerable Foundation stands. As this isn't a very sensible arrangement I was wondering what I could use to provide the extra height. And I thought of using 2 sections of 10cm thick AAC breeze blocks glued together.. Anyone any ideas ??

Seriously, I have played with my home made cubey things at various levels and I think they do sound better a little higher. Low down you might have been getting a bit of direct radiation from the mid / bass ?

Couild be, Stu. They seem to generate a far better acoustic 'field' when raised, more space-filling resonance and depth.

I assume the top and bottom plates bolt onto the pillar. If so could you have a new pillars made 20cm taller?

Re: Ooh! New Shoes
If it was me I would be getting some big ass tree trunk to act as a pillar. Something like this but wider
A dense wood like holly or hawhorn or beech would weigh a ton.

Re: Ooh! New Shoes
Was also considering solid oak blocks under the Cubes - might look quite chic.
The current stands are welded - so no chance of lengthening them.
