Whilst I understand the requirement for free speach, I thought we, at least in the UK had decided that it is not an option. Personally I would find it hard to condemn anyone to death.
I understand what you're saying and in essence, I agree with you. I don't object particularly on moral grounds, but a death penalty is dangerous in that you might just be killing an innocent person. There have been enough serious miscarriages of justice to worry me on that score. However, if someone was caught in the act of (for instance) raping a child, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't object to calls for the death penalty.

For the leading advocates of killing prisoners, I'd suggest that they were given the opportunity to kill one personally, hands-on, in front of a crowd of his or her relatives. It would be interesting to see how convinced they were by their own arguments. All the time it's happening nowhere near them and somebody else is doing the killing they're fine with it, but I'm willing to bet that many wouldn't have the stomach for it themselves. If they went through with the act, well, then perhaps we know all we need to know about them.

I think, in certain cases, where there is actually incontrovertible proof, e.g. being caught in the act of murder, or rape, or with a "proper" confession, then perhaps it could be justified. I still wouldn't want to press the button or pull the lever myself though.

Ah, but the DON only intended this to apply if you are black. Obviously. And, since the chaos yesterday were only supporting his sacred cause (i.e. whatever the DON wants is the only truth that exists) that's ok.

I would prefer to see him rot in jail until his dying day than be executed. The problem for me is even if he is jailed so many Americans voted for him that I suspect he would have a very cushy prison life, one distinctly different to your normal American prisoner

That would be at the tax payers expense and don't forget he owes a lot and will be investigated when he does not have presedential imunity.

I shouldn't worry. With creditors and potential legal action because he repeatedly broke the law, Trump will be off. I'm sure Russia will be opening it's arms.

I have a friend who has the same analysis.

I think we need to look a bit deeper if we want to stop this.

I think it was a Republican on today's Channel 4 news who talked about how Trump had won 'the hearts and minds and minds and purses' of his followers.

They aren't thick - the culture and hisrtory is different.

This is is old as the civil war (and racist). Ted Cruz (R. Texas and potential runner for 2024) refers to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compromise_of_1877 as a model.
