Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
To answer Slinger, I was born in Holland but am a British citizen now. I explained to a rather startled primary school teacher that the whole family had been nationalised.

My trajectory is the exact opposite.
After bigotted Boris lied to and convinced the gullible to make a decision I was not allowed to participate in, then he made me ashamed of being British and finally forced me to change my nationality - taking away any birthright I had left.
That man is a traitor.

Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
Am on holiday staying at a Premier Inn. Alarm bells started ringing when I received an email the day before we departed saying that the usual high standards could not be met because of supply chain issues and staff shortages, without stating the cause. This has turned out to be an under statement. Have had long waits for service with items not being available, not to mention no staff at the bar. Walked to Lidl to bring a drink back, no pubs in walking distance. The few staff around are run off their feet. Have never had these problems before when most of the staff were from Eastern Europe and East Asia. Now there are no staff from over seas.CN211276 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 12:37 pm We are being impacted in so many ways and Covid is being used as a convenient excuse for the problems caused by stopping the free movement of labour. We are no longer having our garden waste collected because of a shortage of drivers. This was no an issue during the height of the pandemic and lockdowns. At the same time the Royal Mail has become a shambles in our locality. Mail is taking a long time to arrive and going missing. Had to get my money back from eBay this week because a parcel was lost. The evening bus service has been significantly reduced. I never used to have much of a wait for a bus home from town when out on the razzle. Had to phone my wife for a lift on one occassion.
We are being told by the lying f****ers that all this has nothing to do with Brexit.

Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
Inflation in Britain is apparently the highest for 40 years.
That would have been in the time of Thatcher when she saved the UK from bankruptcy by joining the EU.
Hmmm ....

Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
For about 100 years from 1810 to 1910, the UK had years of inflation balanced by years of deflation, with this largely depending on the harvests.
Since 1950, inflation has been a tool to reduce government debt as a proportion of GDP.

I'm taking my youngest down to London for the League One play-off, this weekend. Staying at the Hilton in Euston Square...they messaged me a couple of days ago to say that they don't have the 'resources' to do breakfasts at weekends, for the foreseeable future.

Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
Honestly I do not know how bad things have to become before the "great British public (actually predominantly English) " wake up, join the dots and see the stupidity of the electing a conservative government obsessed with Brexit and the preservation of extreme wealth. There are so many global problems facing us and being an active and cooperative part of a large group offers a lot of benefits.
Of course there are pro's & cons to every decision but for decades the very wealthy media owners have focussed exclusively on the negative aspects of the EU without any mention of the positives and that is in part is why I think change might be be further away than I would like.

Re: Brexit Benefits -the sunny uplands
Until we find a cure for the Mail, Express and the whole cohort of 'populist' rable rousing media playing to the gallery I'm afraid that we are stuck with this godawful mess for the foreseeable future.
I'd like to be more possitive but the world seems to be dividing into mutually exclusive echo chambers where not only is there no room for debate, the merest suggestion that compromise is the way forward will get you tarred and feathered by both sides..
Meanwhile back to the music.

Paul - I hope you will be supporting the “right” team.
My son will be there as well!
Heard the tale of the fan going from the NE to Minorca staying Friday night flying back to Stansted then getting a lift to the game - cheaper than flying direct or a train ticket!
Crazy reflection of todays Britain!

We are Sunlun season ticket holders (although the mighty Sarfend Utd are still my first team - but a bit of a journey from Durham).Lordie82360now wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 1:30 pm Paul - I hope you will be supporting the “right” team.

Yeah, saw about the guy going via Menorca. Thought it might be a load of Balearics, but apparently it's true!
