The controversy is that the data goes back to a central point rather than staying on the phone (as per the Apple / Google app being used by other countries). Some also claim that it breaches data law, but I don't know if that is actually the case.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 6:30 pm Am I missing something. I think it's a matter of trust rather than a reluctance to cease masturbating.Classicrock wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:13 pm Stop being a bunch of wankers and do your bit and use the app. Maybe we can then get out of this lock down.

Can’t use the app, so whether I’m a wanker or not is beside the point.Classicrock wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:13 pm Stop being a bunch of wankers and do your bit and use the app. Maybe we can then get out of this lock down.

I presume I cannot use the app because my smartphone is not connected to a phone network. It is just a music playing device accessing Qobuz, Tidal and my ripped CDs. I am quite happy with my aniquated pay as you go dumb phone to use as a phone.

Sure...if the process is transparent and legal.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:52 pm A lot of you must international spies or drug dealers if your bothered about info on your phone.

The aim should be to get as many people as possible reporting their status. An app that is independent from the government would get much wider acceptance.

Problem is an independent app is not a viable option as this has to be public funded and run on a national basis. 80% of smartphone owners said they are happy to sign up based on opinion polls. You only have to provide first 3 digits of your postcode and no other personal information apparently. If you have a driving licence the govt has more personal info than this app keeps.savvypaul wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 8:06 pmSure...if the process is transparent and legal.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 7:52 pm A lot of you must international spies or drug dealers if your bothered about info on your phone.

The issue is where the data is stored. Other countries leave the data on the phones and the phones communicate with each other. The UK version submits all your data, with consent to use it for pretty much anything, straight to Dominic Cummings. I've spoken to a couple of IT guys, they won't be downloading it.Classicrock wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:15 amProblem is an independent app is not a viable option as this has to be public funded and run on a national basis. 80% of smartphone owners said they are happy to sign up based on opinion polls. Re: Coronavirus contact tracing app - will you use it?
It's not keeping much useful information. i'm sure the govt knows more about us already. I just wish people would stop using Dominic Cummings as some bogeyman. He is an advisor and not running the country and making decisions for Boris and the cabinet. Can't see why your current location or whether you have Covid 19 would interest him on an individual basis. I'm sure if he keeps generating negative publicity he will outlive his usefulness.savvypaul wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:19 amThe issue is where the data is stored.
