On the news this evening was a report about an intiative from worldwide universities to utilise the surplus capacity of domestic computers in ordinary homes.
A network of processing capacity that creates a huge virtual supercomputer that can then crack the problems of combatting the Corona virus, Parkinson's disease, cancer, etc. The massively complex problem calculations are broken down into little chunks that can be worked out on an ordinary PC/Laptop and these are distributed to the machines joined into the processing network.
The software is easy to install on any PC, runs quietly in the background and can be set for minimal interference of normal daily tasks. AND you get to feel good that you are contributing in the search for solutions to serious health problems.
Go to https://foldingathome.org and help find that cure.

Re: Computers against Corona (and other illnesses)
SETI@home (similar distributed computing platform) was running for 20 years, any results yet?
They (universities with state-of-the art computing labs) probably need new approach, not more computing power...

Re: Computers against Corona (and other illnesses)
And your point being?SETI@home (similar distributed computing platform) was running for 20 years, any results yet?
The "Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search" found the 51st Known Mersenne Prime in 2018, all 24,862,048 digits of it.
But in the absence of new approaches then the existing ones need more computing power. They (universities with state-of-the art computing labs) probably need new approach, not more computing power...
