Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Britain and outside the gates of Downing Street in protest against Boris Johnson’s move to suspend parliament. Crowds brandished banners pledging to “defend democracy”, chanted “stop the coup” and waved EU flags in London in a bid to resist the parliament shutdown.

And they want to defend democracy.........Duuuuuhhhhh.!!!

Disgraceful, gonna need a bigger can George.

I'm trying to be as lenient as possible. I've said please, I've given plenty of leeways, and all that's left for me to do is remind you all that admin decisions are not questioned on the forum. They never have been. If anyone has a point to make then please feel free to message me or Paul.

Now let's please draw a line under the childish name-calling, and the "let's see how far we can push our luck now" posts, and carry on with the discussion.

This blinkered outlook has enabled a motely crew of extreists to take over the Govenment and shut off democracy. I am shocked that this could happen in this country. I have not attended any form of demonstration for nearly forty years, but that could change on Tuesday when there is a pro democracy demonstration in Cardiff.
Good on you.

I went to the one down the road in Stroud yesterday.
I was pleased that the event was very much cross-party, and deliberately NOT Pro-Momentum or anti-Brexit. I don't want to stop Brexit, and am no fan of Momentum. I just want our representative democratic system to operate.
Of course there were present Socialist Worker salesman and Remoaners in Stroud yesterday, but they were very much in the minority. Most on the march and rally were concerned moderates (like me). Johnson-Cumming's actions have clearly united a wide spectrum of groups and individuals. The main speakers were a local LibDem councillor, a local Green MEP and the local MP David Drew (Labour Co-operative). All stressed the cross-party nature of the event, and were at pains to acknowledge the efforts of those Conservative and Leave voting supporters of Parliamentary Democracy.
I was relieved that these central messages tied in with my pre-prepared banner (4 years of History study at Cambridge paid off at last, as I just about managed to recall the siege of Gloucester during the civil war...)

I also recall that after the civil war John Bunyon asked his generation "Were you doers or talkers only? What canst thou say?"
Go on CN211276! Get yourself down the pro-parliament rally on Tuesday! You'll feel proud.

I'll be waving my placard again outside Shire Hall in Gloucester on Monday.

Why would you support a bunch of MPs who have been arguing for 3 years and not come up with a solution to Brexit other than put forward by the government and seek to prolong chaos and uncertainty. Also maybe remember what happened after 1643. Monarchy restored and Cromwell's body dug up and his head kicked around. Some would love to do same with Corbyn and co. They all know what they don't want but don't offer an alternative solution other than ignoring the referendum result. Pretty sad to align with a puritan who banned merriment and vandalised churches.

It has got worse. Gove says that if legislation is passed preventing a no deal exit the Goverment could ignore it. This is worse than a banana republic and would amount to a coup. I just cant come to terms with this happening in this country. What would be the point of Parliament and elected representatives? The country is facing its biggest crisis since the Second World War and the maniacs who have siezed power have to be stopped, what ever the means. The issue now is a lot bigger than Brexit. If a law stopping a no deal can be ignored, by the same logic so can any law and we have anarchy in the UK.

The people want Brexit, and Boris is doing his very best to achieve it for us.

What the other numbskulls are trying to do is block our democratic wishes. Off with their heads.

A referendum is advisory. Final decisions rest with the democraticaly elected Parliament which is being put to one side by a rag tag bunch of extremists.

Opposition to absolutist rule was one of the less controversial functions of Parliamentarianism during the civil war.
From 1660 the restoration was managed by Parliament, who continued to resist any move towards absolutism.

And, I would not support any specific bunch of MPs. Rather the institution and sovereignty of Parliament. If complicated things like Brexit take a long time to sort out. So be it. I’d rather they were done well than quickly.
