Why do you post on forums

Unread post by karatestu »

Asking for advice
Passing the time
Social interaction (of sorts)
You are addicted
Giving advice / helping others
Showing off / willy waving
You are right about everything and must tell everyone
To impress others with your guru knowledge
To bitch and have an argument
To bully others
To sell something
To get your new purchased approved by others

I really am not sure why i post. Suppose i am addicted to hifi forums. I used to ask for advice in the early years but not so much now. It does feel good to give advice but i feel its only my opinion and who am i to push my point of view on anyone. Why do i post all the diy stuff ? Must have been to get approval from Richard and make sure i was on the right path. As Richard is no longer here then i am not sure what the purpose of posting about my diy adventures is anymore.

To have a laugh. That's the only sensible reason, surely?

Have never given this much thought. I suppose there are a number of reasons and it depends upon which forum I am posting on. For me the main purpose of forums is to obtain information and advice. With regard to hifi this forum and to a lesser extent Head-fi are head and shoulders above the rest. There is also the entertainment factor and hifi forums are good for this because there are so many eeediots. As I am one to speak my mind there are many I cant post on because I am banned.

I post only on HFS and for me it is a social thing.

Hate the hypocrisy of 'perfect life' Facebook, can't understand the frustration and stupidity on Twitter.
At least here I'm in with a like-minded bunch of audio and music freaks.

And it's a way of staying in touch with the 'roots' after almost 30 years living outside the UK.

AOS was the first forum I joined to get in touch with Jez Arkless to mod my disappointing Cambridge phono stage. Not that his mod satisfied me but the way he was banned was so disgusting that I asked for being banned too. It happened as immediately as my post was deleted. Then Richard asked me to join here to remind him of my orders. I did and till then it's a lot of fun with nice people. I'm not on Facebook, I don't have Whatsapp or anything else. The only forum I joined too is Colin's SECA forum. He offered there his Claymore FMT drawings and circuit plan. But that's another, still continuing story.

Sometimes I post on forums as a form of mildly masochistic personal entertainment.

Like in this thread where some of the posters think that all old speakers are a load of wank.

Spouting :Bllocks: such as this is a reason why many post on forums. See so much of it.
