The PC boot up and getting to "work" speed test

Unread post by Lindsayt »

How long does the computer that you are using take to power up, first thing in the morning and for you to then get into this thread on this forum?

Stopwatch the time it takes from you pressing the power button to it loading the operating system, to you loading your web browser and getting into this thread.

Please provide your basic computer specifications including price paid, if you feel comfortable doing so.

For the laptop I am using now it's:

32 seconds.

HP 8440p laptop. I5 M520 cpu, 2GB RAM, 500GB SSD, Windows 7. Cost £80 used a few years ago, plus the SSD that I got for free.

How does my computer compare to yours?

I have a desk top and it can take a long time to start up. Dont use it that often as my tablet does most of the things i want to do and is far more convenient. Play music via my phone and streamer.

2009 i-mac took me 36 seconds. Used to be A LOT slower than that before I swapped out the HDD for an SSD.
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

That's a good figure, zebbo. Especially bearing in mind that if you go on other forums with a "What PC / laptop should I buy?" section there would be people saying a 2009 i-mac is an old piece of junk.

Long may your i-mac continue to give good service...

40 seconds for me, using the Opera browser

HP 250 G6 15.6" 4GB RAM 500GB SSD Core i5 Windows 10.

I bought it new last year for £485 originally with a HDD. It worked but was painfully slow so I bought myself a SanDisk 500GB SSD and it was a completely different machine, lightning fast in comparison. My mistake, I should have gone for the SSD version from the off.
