Losing weight

Unread post by Dr Bunsen Honeydew »

Time for a little bragging I have finally reached my target weight I set myself 5 years ago of 11.5 stone. This is down from my biggest 10 years ago of 14.5 stone  I am finally in the green on the BMI.

No need for diets but I did do a fast last year which took off one stone. Just eating less, the fast was a great help as I think it shrunk my stomach so I couldn't eat as much at meals, no second helpings.

So do I stick or twist, 11 stone sounds nice, still got a belly, but that seems to be hereditary.

Nice one Doc. Thought you looked a touch slimmed-down in the show photos last week.

I've gone gluten /wheat-free recently which has given me more energy and I' ve lost a fair bit of extra weight too.

Indeed - well done Doc!

I've gone on the Ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting, cut out a huge amount of carbs & no sugar.

After 8 weeks I've lost 25lbs., mainly around my middle and I'm now fasting for between 16 & 20hrs a day. I feel great and my blood sugar level has stabilised, I was on the verge of metabolic syndrome - pre diabetes type 2.

Thankfully my Doctor is working with me on this. more blood tests next week including Hb1ac.

Alfi.

PS. This isn't my Doc but I wish he was.. Lots of good advice here....

Well done Doc. I have lost a stone in the last year and am what the doctor says i should be. Being retired and not stuck behind a desk all day has helped. I am getting more exercise and eating less.

How tall are you, Doc, if you don't mind me asking? The reason I ask is because, at 5'4 myself, the weight you are currently at would represent a good stone off for me! That said I've started this year at least half a stone lighter than last, so I'm hoping slowly to get myself below 12 stone.

I’ve found fasting using the 6/18 method to be really successful and I lost a stone in a relatively short period doing this. Something else I’ve also found to be really good is daily cold showers and cold exposure. Twice a day I turn off the boiler and have a cold shower and I always wear as few layers as possible when I’m outside. The cold showers have also done wonders for my mental wellbeing and I always have one if I’m feeling a bit low. I always feel better when I get out.

 yeah it’s always a relief to get out, they are really uncomfortable! But they leave me feeling clear headed and rejuvenated. It’s a little achievement every morning forcing myself to have one as soon as I get out of bed.
