Don’t have a top 3 rating but I was not impressed by the Dali nor monitor audio range under £1k

The Fyne audio looks to be expensive but on investigation the sound was underwhelming imo

Dyn-Audio as a breed!
Older Kudos models and maybe some newer ones (the large active Titan's were horrible when I heard them last year)
Modern KEFs which can take your fillings out - all in the cause of more 'deeeetail!'

Don't agree about Dynaudio, at least not all of them.
Linn has to be included because everything they have ever made is over priced shite.

I haven't heard a modern speaker for nearly ten years now, so have no idea what they sound like and don't really care. As a DIY'er you tend to become isolated from the "industry" Don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing, but what you do get is a healthy scepticism. I'm often incredulous at the prices charged for so called "high end" speakers.

I also get pissed off at the snotty, patronising attitudes of some forum members who talk down to the diy'er and laugh up their sleeves at the "plucky deluded amateur", whilst at the same time waxing lyrical about £130 fuses.

Well different subject. On forums we are subject to pretend guru type over inflated egos, these are the ones you refer to, but we are also inflicted by the newby ignorance that thinks the marketing has to be right, these are who the pretend gurus prey on. All the lot that came across to wigwam from What Hi-Fi are this second lot, they haven't a bloody clue. As for the Linn lot it is like a holiday camp for brainwashed loonies attached for a *fairly* normal forum. So overall I am very so pleased we are we, and we have you.

Somewhere amongst all this eeediocy is the real hobbyist, and at the heart of all hobbys is the DIYer.

I don't think many of the Linn refugees are viewing the rest of the forum, choosing to keep their heads buried in the sand. Perhaps they are scared to find out how much more can be achieved at far less cost. I am also struck by the lack of knowledge of many who have come over from What Hifi.
