British holidaymakers

Unread post by It is I, Leclerc »

I sometimes wonder why people do the things they do, perhaps the power of advertising and peer pressure. Sometimes it takes an outsider to see the obvious.
I had a friend from St Lucia, back in the day, and I remember him saying "British people are wierd, they moan throughout the autumn about the weather, they moan throughout the winter about the weather and they moan throughout the spring about the weather. When summer comes and they finally have some of the weather they want to enjoy they pack their bags and go abroad!" Obviously a generalisation but still pretty much true.

I do not go abroad in the summer, Torquay is fine. After retiring a year ago we went away for a month in the winter. Plan to do the same, perhaps for longer. I don't like the short days, wind and rain.

And then some will moan about that:- it's too hot, too humid and the lawns need water.

When you take a flight from a popular touristic hot spot home, because from and to there the flights are always cheap, you could see by the colour of the skin of every tourist, if he's British or not. Being smashed of a lot of and falling asleep in the sun. It's not a prejudice, it's only the conclusion of long year experience. And don't want to hurt anybodies feelings with this post. Two month ago in Tirana, I met a guy from London, who's holiday's concept was to visit nearly unknown countries like Transnistria, Uzbekistan and what ever, get drunk and in trouble, sometimes with the police, sometimes with the mafia, and feeling glad, that he survived it all at the end.

The ONLY time you'll find me moaning about our weather is if it's HOT like it was the last couple of months. Generally I love our climate and I have rarely gone abroad, (and even then it wasn't anywhere hot! ).
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Benz Micro Gullwing SLR, Phono 2, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

If I was in Britain, I'd do a lot more holiday in my country. My wife and me had nice two weeks three years ago in London, Dorset and Devon, by fortune finding out such spectacular place like Hartland's Quay. Taking a "Sea View Window Room" is a fine thing there.

And the best places to eat in your country in my opinion are Pubs and Indian Restaurants. Here we don't know lamb chop braised for hours in Port Wine, or such fine curries, that you don't get in that quality and taste in Germany.

Difficult to find a decent curry in The Netherlands as well (unless you visit me here).

The Brits who fill Amsterdam with beer-fuelled loutishness are a total embarrassment. Coming over in droves just to get pissed, stoned, laid and have a fight. That's a normal night out in Leeds - why can't they go there?
