Jeez i hate situations like this.

I sold a Phono stage last week that id used twice. It was working perfectly before i boxed it back up in the original packing. The buyer claims its dead! I know full well this was working perfectly. Now i got a claim against me . Which i will loose the unit & the money.

What do you do in this situation?

I'm taking it as read that they have connected it properly.

Assuming sold through ebay...have them return it to you for a refund.

Check it over...then list it again.

You'll be down a bit of postage but that's all.

You don't have to pay until the buyer didn't sent you back the item. If you get it back, and it works, than you've met a dumb guy, case closed. If you get it back, and it's really broken, than the other guy is honest, something happened during the shipping, you can apply for compensation if the shipping was insured. If you get back a "half brick", than you are f..ed, since you won't be able to prove, that what you got back is not what you've sent.

This unit was perfectly working. Why the hell should i have to loose the item & cost. Brand new items do not break in the post when they are bullet proof packed. What is getting my goat is you dont have any protest you just get your duff goods back & loose everything.

Talk to ebay on the phone.

You've nothing to suggest that your buyer is being dishonest. If it isn't working then they are entitled to send it back to you and get a refund...as you would expect if it were the other way round.

If it broke in transit, claim from the carrier (assuming you selected a service with adequate insurance).

Go on the help page. You will eventually get an option to 'Contact Us.

Select the 'call me back' option. It's much easier than hanging...

I agree with Richard. Call ebay and explain your situation in a balanced manner. I sold a perfectly good pair of speakers to a chap in Belgium. He claimed they were distorting and had measurements to 'prove' this. Claimed a full refund.

Once I explained to ebay and asked why should I send-out a pair of defective speakers, I got to keep my money. However, the chap in Belgium got to keep the speakers and was refunded.
