Cinema sound

Unread post by CN211276 »

This ties in a bit with the Harbeth Spendor thread. Went to the cinema for the first time in years the other day and what immediately struck me was the terrible sound. I don't know what they were using but it was excruciating and this is a top cinema. i noticed a lot of smallish speakers on the walls but do not know what make they were, the disjointed base coming from somewhere else. My reaction could partly because I am used to the sound of my Sky box through the hifi with Cubes each side of the tv.

Well last time I went to cinema I had to use my audio ear plugs (-18dB) It was new Deadpool so I wasn't expecting fine audio experience but hell it was way too loud ( and it was also top cinema)
no comment about quality as it was all muffed ;]

The speakers are either JBL or QSC mostly in the UK, love the sound in some cinemas and you have to be in the centre to get good surround sound, the PA sound of cinema will never be Music although a few years ago they started transmitting music concerts and operas but don't know how successful the promotion was and I like cinema to be about Films and the sound is all part of the big hall experience.

Many years ago I heard the file "Earthquake" at a cinema in Leicester Square. My only problem was that I was at the cinema next door watching something else.

Might the movie you were watching have been Airport 1975, Terry? I had the same thing happen to me in the same cinema. I'd actually been to see Earthquake the week before.

I really can't remember the film I went to see, but that sounds likely.
