About to close my ebay account.

Hello all.

Anyone else feeling the stress with ebay? As with the EU starting out as the Common Market, ebay has morphed into something (in my opinion) that controls rather than allows. Several buying transactions recently have resulted in hassle due to incorrect measurements... Ebay find in my favour, I follow instructions and am rained-on with hassle... It really has become too difficult to continue. Any further upgrades/purchases vis-a-vis NVA I will use PM and PayPal.

Comments....

Fine....

1. Purchased a brake rotor ar diameter 200mm.
2. Item turned out to be diameter 203mm.
3. Passed this information to the vendor.
4. Vendor argued the case and asked me to send photos.
5. I send photos... no response from vendor ( I am a cycle mechanic).
6. Wait for 10 days and pass all information to ebay.
7. +7 days later ebay find in my favour.
8. Print-off return label, post the item back to vendor.
9. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
10. Email ebay that I have done this, and provide tracking detail.
11. Wait.....
12. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
13. Send ebay scanned copies (I'm sceptical) of return labels and receipt from Post Office.
14. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
15. Telephone ebay and explain the situation. Apologies, blah-de-blah.
16. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
17. Telephone again and explain the situation once more.
18. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
19. About to give up.
20. Wait....
21. Ebay email me to carry-out the returns procedure.
22. Give up.

Frustrating, for sure...but not typical.

Did you input the tracking number in the return details page when you printed off the return label?

Go to:

My Ebay-Purchase History

The item should be listed separately at the bottom of the page. Click on Return Details.

What status / information is shown?

Done that... Ebay invites me to print-off the return label...

Anyway... My point is that internet sites (such as ebay) are supposed to be better or at least more convenient than more traditional outlets. This at first was quite true, but has more recently become more inconvenient. Yes, ebay has opened-up true markets, but at the same time has opened-up abusers of those true markets and (unfortunately) the terminally stupid.

No, ebay is not responsible for either abuse or stupidity. But their attempts to rectify such an imbalance means that I have to jump through several hoops to show that I am both correct, and the vendor is either incorrect, or stupid, or both. Hence the emphasis is shifted to me to prove (in my case) that Mr. Fudbrain cannot use a ruler, by photographs et al... and after doing that am pursued to reinforce/repeat same.

There are undoubtedly genuine vendors (me/Doc/several others). But the balance between convenience and opportunity versus hassle and crookedness/stupidity has shifted toward the stupid and the crooked.

Don't deal with Amazon at all. Not sure if I'm old and fuddy, or I'm right (or at least not wrong).
