Forum Update Issues

Unread post by terrybooth »

I'm starting this thread to enable the tidy up of teething issues of the new forum software. To summarise why I've upgraded the forum software:

The site is not a secure site. So when browsers start throwing a wobbly when you go to the site, as the do now and as they will increasingly do in the future, this site will be OK.
This is the latest version of the forum software and all the other bits of software (called extensions) which make up the forum.
The forum is now more easily viewable on mobile devices because the website now has an adaptive design.
There's better protection against spammers.

There are a number of issues which have come out which are around the new forum being slightly different from the old one. Links and notifications aren't in the same place as before.
The default editing box is a simple box, to get advanced editing tools, you need to click on a button below the post
The advanced editing tools is showing 'old' icons which don't work in the new version. (If you hover your mouse on them, a tooltip pops up which starts ABBC).
Mobile users can't get to the latest post from the Latest New Section of the portal.

For the last one - there is a two hop answer - select the largest number you can see twice will take you to the last page of posts for the thread.
The BB Editing tools one, I'm awaiting a response from phpBB (the software behind this forum).

This is an issue at my end but as soon as the forum was updated I could no longer access the forum on one of my tablets. Every other device in the house is ok. It says " can not obtain a secure connection" Has been driving me nuts.

Well done Terry for doing what seems like a nightmare of a job.

Stu, check that the time, date, and time-zone are correct on your Tab. Believe it or not that can cause the precise problem/error message that you're getting on a Tab 3.

Maybe, but plenty of beer was my first thought. Burying my 7 & 3 year olds in sand on the beach is bound to happen at some point.
