Cats & Hifi

Fond as I am of my moggies - they can be an utter pain.

Yesterday evening I heard bumping and yowling coming from my spare room where the NVA installation stands. Going in there - the two cats (brother and sister, same litter) run out having one of their regular 'Top Cat' confrontations. There was a nasty buzzing coming from the Hifi, putting on some music - it was muffled, echoey and in mono !

After some switching on/off and careful testing of interconnects I discovered that they had managed to knock one of the SSP mk.1 cables and loosen the connection. Putting in a spare (luckily I have a couple) solved that. But it's a nuisance.

Time to consider a set of SSP mk.2's - they would be more cat-proof.

But cats seem to have a definite fascination for hifi:
The tangle of leads behind a system is just like a garden shrub you can hide in.
Amplifiers, when left on, are lovely warm spots to sit/sleep on.
Speakers are really handy high places where they can safely sit to observe the rest of the family's activities.
Kittens just love chewing on wires - especially those of expensive, brand-new headphones.
Stacks of CD's are just waiting to be knocked over.
All those tiny loose hairs that (used to) cover my LP's.

I hate 'em: flea-ridden fur-bags !!! :angry-screaming:

Alright - I confess, I love them, really. Wouldn't what to be without them....

.. IF they leave the stereo alone !!!! :animals-cat:

I forgot one:

Loudspeaker grilles are actually disguised scratching-posts.
The cats were ecstatic when a pair of Magnepan panels got installed.

In the instruction-book it is advised to treat the speakers, as a precaution, with cat-repellant spray.

Now there is a manufacturer who understands animal behaviour !

I feel really bad about it but.....nowt I could do ( ).

I tell a lie....
I came to a Wee village 30 speed limit.....doing 40.......5am morning....
No traffic to be seen..thump.

Now I heard a thump so know I hit it......but the cat ran off into a garden.
Could be dead....could be alive....could be injured.

No idea......They say a cat has nine lifes.....Hope it has eight left.

But.....its not nice, and I feel like a right prick.
Cant help feeling . ive spoiled the kids / owners xmas.

I wanted to stop......but.
Not obligated to do so for a Cat.

One of my cats lives in the room where the hi-fi is. Ignore me most of the time but when I sit down to listen, she's there, purring away. My musical cat.

When I had two cats, never had a problem with them sitting on the hifi, just one who liked to chew wires. One or both did use my record storage as a scratching post, damaging some of the LP spines. :angry-screaming: After that they were never allowed in the room when we were not there. Really miss all of my cats though.

Having had a few breathe their last in my arms after being run over, I can confirm that it is not a pleasant experience. It's a bit easier to handle if they stop, obligated or not.

Titch used to like watching the turntable platter going round and round, but having been deafened by the big ATC's when I once switched them on with volume up, he left them well alone. Ollie just ignored it all. The two feline visitors we have today, don't get involved at all.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

You're not alone by a long chalk. Professor Brian Cox posted this image of his cat on Twitter last year...
