Not keen on Apple profit margins or their 'nanny state' operating system...but it may have to be.
Bit of a thread resurection. But I didn't think it was worth starting a new thread when this older one would do perfectly fine.

A bit like Windows 7 is an older operating system, that does perfectly fine.

Just rebuilt my wife's laptop. It has the Windows 10 license built into the motherboard.

Can't turn off the updates! :angry-steamingears: Can only defer them. I hate working on a laptop and then being told that I have to stop working on it because of some stupid update that I never asked for and never wanted. Who's in charge here? Me or the stupid laptop?

And then the whole interface is less easy to use than Windows 7. And I'm not saying that just because I'm more used to 7. I'm saying that because it's stupidly annoying. For example if I want see what printers are installed and to change the default one, it's stupidly obscure how I can do this.
The bottom left start menu is worse. It's now presented as a stupid long list of applications with a stupidly thin scroll control...

Bloody Windows 10 :angry-screaming:

Still better than Windows 8 - now that was a mudbowl to use.

My main Laptop had a total crash last week - had to hand it in at the repair shop to put a clean W10 installation in,
Now stuck with a primaeval tiny netbook that has the computing power of a calculator - believe me that the W10 updates on this thing are a REAL pain as they slow the whole machine down to a drunken, arthritic snail's pace.

Once you get used to it W10 isn't too bad - but you have to know what you need to turn off in the settings to get it running fairly smoothly.

The laptop I've just rebuilt has Windows 10 Pro on it. I couldn't find a way to turn the updates off.

Bearing in mind it's not on a domain. Nor monitored via SCCM. It's just used as a home laptop now.

Hi Guys

I use this method with great success on my 1 win 10 machine ( gaming only ) also i use it to maintain friends and family's machines that use Win 10 take a look and see if it is something you would be happy using .

I also use a prog called O+O shutup10 with great effect but the way you set it up will be down to how you wish to configure your machine.
Takes a little time to choose what your preferences would be but there is a guide to follow on both of these sites.

The LARGE print giveth - and the small print taketh away.
