It's not a cheap solution but custom ear inserts work. One of my customers is a specialist http://www.sensorcom.com/.

He comes around and injects some stuff in your ear which goes off after a few mins, these moulds are then used to make custom tight fitting ear plugs.

I had some made to go with my Sure IEM's, my experience is that sound isolating works a hell of a lot better than noise cancelling.

The Bose QC headphones where excelant but only compensate for constant mid or low frequency such as aircraft noise.

You can get DIY isolating ear plug kits, might be worth a try...

As a deterant against snoring Doc, I agree with Phlak, molded earplugs are both comfortable and very effective, I have used them offshore.

That's what I ment with the suggestion off silicon ear plugs use them on the bike for long trips there brill
