Saw that in Wednesdays guardian , it is an awesome article , it is the best concise thing i have ever read on Marx in a newspaper . I have read it three times and it is on my desk at home to save .

his comments upon capital destroying labour and thus destroying itself are excellent augmentation of Marx .

I will be back. But

I am not sure what point you are making .spending more than callaghan makes dave a socialist. Or public spending is to high.

To begin with a better comparison than the one you employ is govt spending as a percentage of gdp
Why the fuck is Government spending as a percentage of GDP a better indication of the level of Socialism than the level of spending in real terms per head of population? Surely they are both equally valid measurements?

Why should Government spending go up, just because GDP and therefore productivity goes up?
Surely, if anything it should go down? As increased GDP implies increased prosperity and therefore decreased demand for welfare payments?

The UK population rose from 56.2 million in 1978 to about 63.9 million in 2014. That's an increase of 13%.
As I've already mentioned UK Government spending increased in real terms from £368.6 billion to £714 billion in that period. That's an increase of 94%.

The big point that I have been making on this thread is that David Camerons Conservative Coalition Government of 2014 is far more socialistic than James Callaghan's Labour Government of 1978. Do you agree with me on that point?

Surely that point is self apparent from the inflation adjusted Government spending figures?

And as for the increase in the number of pensioners, please quote your information source and then we can look at Government spending on pensions per head of population aged over 65.
